When You Stumble, Don’t Be Afraid To Come Before God’s Throne

Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:14-16

When you make a mistake or when you stumble terribly, is it easy for you to come before the presence of the Father and ask for His forgiveness, or are you afraid to face Him? For instance, when you fail to do your tithing, do you see the Father about to punish you for that? Or do you see Him embrace you still?

Religion has twisted our view of God in so many ways, yet when you have a personal encounter with Jesus Christ, you realize He is a totally different Being than the One being taught to us. Religion, in its varied scope, imparted to us an angry God, a distant God, a silent God, a serious God. You don’t even want to come near to this scary God when you make a single mistake. But that’s not Who our Heavenly Father is.

(John 3:16 says that God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.), Jesus Christ. God is love. When you see a loving person, you definitely want to be friends with such a person. It’s the same with the Father. Though you were born in the Spirit and received Jesus Christ as Your Lord and Savior, sometimes unconsciously you can carry a mindset that God will be so angry with you when you make a mistake or fall into temptation. For instance, Christians who practice tithe and offering and then fail to do so often get condemned for what they have done; many of them run away from God instead of running to Him. But the truth is, for all those under the grace of God in Christ Jesus, the curse of the law due to not tithing is no longer applicable. Check here to learn more about Giving Tithes and Offering.

Hebrews 4:14-16 tells us a different thing: “That is why we have a great High Priest who has gone to heaven, Jesus the Son of God. Let us cling to him and never stop trusting him. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same temptations we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it.”

We clearly see that the Father has brought a solution for our weaknesses. He gave us a High Priest, the Lord Jesus Christ, Who understands us and intercedes for us. And we can guarantee that God won’t strike us with lightning or shout at us when we fall into temptation and appear before His throne. The Father is so full of mercy and grace that He is just and righteous enough to forgive you when you ask that of Him. God’s throne room is not scary.

Remember that you are His child by faith in Christ Jesus. You are His very son or daughter. Unlike our parents, whose love may fail and be conditional at times, God’s love is unconditional. He demonstrated this by sending His Son to die for our sins while we were yet sinners (Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.).

What is the Holy Spirit revealing to you right now? Can you now come boldly to God’s throne of mercy and grace?
