You Are Accepted By God In Christ Jesus

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

Have you ever felt you needed to do something for the LORD so that you wouldn’t feel you are less fruitful and less valuable in the Kingdom of God? Have you ever thought that God would be disappointed in you if you didn’t at least do something for Him?

We all grew up with different upbringings and in different cultures. Much of our mindset came from this upbringing. Many Christians grew up in a home where they felt the need to please their parents, and so their value is based on performance. If the child fails to please the parent, then he or she needs to do more. Many believers tend to adopt this kind of mindset even when they have been born in the Spirit and have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ in their lives.

This perspective makes us view God the Father as someone hard to please or someone Who might be disappointed in us when we fail Him. That is why a lot of believers today try their very best to serve God, even to the point of burnout—getting stressed so much that their health is compromised. Yet Jesus said that His burden is easy and His yoke is light (Matthew 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.).

Sometimes, you tend to forget that the Father loves you much more than He loves that you are doing Kingdom stuff for Him. He did not call you into His Kingdom to become a slave but to be His child. Before you even did anything for the Father, He already loved you. Romans 5:8 says, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” God demonstrated His own love when Christ Jesus died for us even though we did nothing to please Him. This verse clearly tells us that God doesn’t need to be pleased by what we do for Him to accept us and love us.

Our performance does not change the heart of the Father. He remains who He is—loving, compassionate, merciful, gentle, and kind. He is, in fact, easy to please, for He called us His own children through our faith in Jesus Christ. You don’t need to earn God’s acceptance by doing a lot of good works for Him. When you try to earn God’s acceptance by what you do, you forget about the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, Who already finished all things before the Father. You rely on your own strength and not His Spirit when you work to earn the love of God. It is already finished in Christ Jesus.

Know that you were already accepted before you could have done any good thing for God. Receive His acceptance by faith and witness yourself becoming more fruitful in His Kingdom by resting in who you are in Christ—loved, valued, and accepted by the Father regardless of whether you are doing a lot for Him or simply relaxing.
