Living In Christ’s Righteousness

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. 2 Corinthians 5:21

When you make a mistake in your Christian life, do you often find it hard to get over what you did? Do you have a habit of dwelling on the things of the past, especially mistakes you have made?

We can sometimes be hard on ourselves, and we think it is an act of humility before the Father. The more we realize our mistakes each day, the more we meditate on our failures. We beat ourselves up until we find it hard to move on. At that point, the enemy comes in to encourage depression and thoughts of condemnation. He will tell you all the lies he can to make you believe him and turn your back on the race of faith. A lot of Christians, when they realized they make a mistake, will suddenly question their salvation and wonder if God is still going to accept them.

But this mindset is actually rooted in self-righteousness and pride, a part of man’s old nature that needs to be renewed. It is self-righteous because your righteousness is based on what you do and not on what Jesus Christ has done for you. This kind of Christian lifestyle relies on performance to gain acceptance from the Father. But if you read [You are Accepted by God in Christ Jesus], you will learn that God has already accepted you.

2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” Jesus Christ took our own sins and made them his own, and it is by His blood that we have been made righteous before the Father.

Now, you might be wondering about your present mistakes. You must understand that we are all going through the process of holiness. We are a work in progress, not perfection, for we only rest ourselves in the perfection of Jesus Christ. Even the Apostle Paul admitted that he himself had not reached perfection yet, but he focused on Christ, where his perfection is made complete: “Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:12 ).

You don’t have to dwell for too long on the mistakes you have made. Simply ask the Father’s forgiveness, for He is quick and just to forgive you. Embrace the truth that the blood of Jesus Christ is greater than anything in this world and that nothing, not even the powers of hell, can separate us from the love of God through Christ Jesus.

What are the things you need to let go of now? What is Holy Spirit revealing to you? Let go of them now, and receive God’s mercy, grace, and tremendous love in Jesus’ name.
