How to React to Insults and Mistreatments the Godly Way

After the death of Jesus Christ, the Apostles continued his works sharing the good news accompanied by signs, miracles and wonders. But as Jesus said, they too suffered from persecution, rejections and all kinds of wickedness because the world does not know the Spirit of God. And among the Apostles who suffered great persecution because of Christ was the Apostle Paul. But he did not allow persecution and sufferings to hinder his goal of sharing Christ. In fact, the Apostle Paul discovered that in the midst of all sufferings, the more He discovers the greatness of God making him stronger. That is why he wrote in 2 Corinthians 12:10 that he’s glad for the difficult experiences for the sake of Christ:

“Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong." (2 Corinthians 12:10)

“Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.” (2 Corinthians 12:10)

In your life right now, are you also experiencing such sufferings like the Apostle Paul? Are you being insulted and mistreated by the people around you despite doing good? Don’t let this situation hinder the call of God in your life. People will not always understand our dreams, visions and goals in life especially the ones that God is prompting and leading us to do. Scripture says, “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” (Galatians 6:9).

When people insult you or mistreat you, and if you see that the evil surrounding you seems to be prospering even more, don’t let this get into your heart, don’t envy them and never let it move you. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus for God knows what He is doing.  Stay focused on God’s call in your life and you will soon see the fruits of your labor. If you pay attention to the insults or mistreatments, you will only feel bad, angry and worse it could embitter you. Instead, if you feel the pain of insults and mistreatments and all kinds of sufferings, turn these over to God in prayer and tears and allow Him instead to move in your situation.

God knows what you are going through. He knows the truth. So stop fighting for yourself for it will only wear you out. Allow God to fight you instead for He said in His Word, “The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace.” (Exodus 14:14). The is why the Apostle Paul was glad in his sufferings and hardships for it is an opportunity to witness the goodness, greatness and power of God.

Therefore, be glad also if you are experiencing insults and mistreatments especially if you are doing things for the sake of your relationship with God. For you know that He will never leave you or put you to shame. God is faithful. Rest therefore and trust that God will fight for you as you keep your eyes fixed on Jesus Christ in pursuing the goal He’s planted in your heart.
