WHAT PEOPLE WITH NO DREAM DO

For many people, their only goal in life is just to make it through the day. What’s your dream? To get home at night. I heard Chuck Swindoll ask a college student one time, “Where are you headed?” The student said, “To lunch.” For a lot of people, that’s their goal in life.

One time Jesus came to a man on the side of the street and said, “What do you want Me to do for you?” I think that’s one of the most profound questions in life. Have you ever asked yourself, “What do I want God to do for me? What do I want God to do in my life? If God would answer whatever I wanted and give me my heart’s greatest desire, what would I ask for?” Why should I do that? Because God is able to do far more than we would ever dare to ask or even dream of infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts or hopes.

Going through life without a dream is like going shopping without a list. I did that yesterday and I came home with a lot of stuff I really didn’t need. My friend said, “I just sent you for about five items.” But I forgot the list and just started picking up stuff. It’s like playing football without a game plan. It’s like planting a garden without a plot plan, or building a cabin without a blueprint. There are three results when you don’t have a dream: Frustration, Boredom, Regrets

1) Frustration.
If you don’t set goals you’re going to move through life basically from crisis to crisis. If you don’t have a dream for your ministry, you’re going to be a reactor, not an actor. You’ll spend all your life working to accomplish what somebody else has said is a dream, or a goal. You never find the time to do the things that you like to do, because there are too many choices.

2) Boredom.
If you don’t have a dream what’s the use of getting up in the morning.

3) Regrets.
People who have failed to have a dream in life tend to say “If only…” If only I had done this or done that. That’s tragic because you have the freedom to choose.
