Obedience To God’s Word Makes You Firm Even In Storms

And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great. Luke 6:46-49

Do you find yourself questioning the goodness of God when the storms of life hit you? Do you notice an unhealthy pattern in your walk of faith in the Lord no matter how many times you say you love Jesus?

As (1 Peter 5:9 Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.) says, believers all around the world are facing the same temptations and trials. You are not alone in the things you are going through. But it must be tough to mentally desire a strong faith in the Lord yet somehow always fail to execute it, especially during the toughest times of your life.

Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

Jesus Christ already taught us how we can stand firm against the storms and floods of life. He said in Luke 6:46-49, “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them, I will shew you to whom he is like: He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock. But he that heareth, and doeth not, is like a man that without a foundation built an house upon the earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.” In this Scripture, Jesus tells us that those who do and follow His commands are the ones whose foundations are strong, but those who do not do what He commands are easily swept away by the flood.

We can compare the house to our faith. When we build our faith in the Lord and follow it with action through obedience to God’s Word, then surely, as Jesus promised, you are building your faith on a rock, strong and sturdy. Sometimes, we are actually building our faith on the days when there are no storms. Our little acts of obedience and meditating on God’s Word each day and night are already investments in preparation for sudden storms in life.

Some Christians are unprepared and get so shocked when storms hit them. That’s because during the days when the sun was up, they spent their time more in worldly activities instead of giving God time to speak with them. And when the storm of life comes, that’s the only time they kneel and pray to God. But doubt and worries begin to consume them, for they have invested so little in building faith in the Lord.

If you can relate to these words, God is surely calling you to a deeper relationship with Him. He is calling you to spend more time with Him. Give Him quality time to speak with you through the Word so that whether there is a storm or not, good news or no good news, you are His vessel, always prepared and ready no matter what comes.

How are you going to spend more time with God in this season of your life? What planning must you do so that God will take charge of your schedule every day?
