What Is The Purpose Of God’s Anointing?

These days, many Christians hold the incorrect belief that God’s anointing is for one’s personal breakthrough, such as speaking to large crowds, performing great miracles in front of people, or being known all over the world. People think that these are all manifestations in the life of an anointed man or woman of God. This mindset actually grows from a very tiny seed that comes from the king of deception, Satan himself, who distorts all truths and perceptions of man. Satan tries to shift the focus of people to see God’s anointing in a way that is selfish and idolatrous. He blinds God’s people into seeing the real purpose of God’s anointing as benefiting those who are really trapped in darkness, those who are suffering and needing the light of God.

Luke 4:18-19 reveals the clear purpose of God’s anointing, which Jesus Himself demonstrated: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

Jesus moved in such power and glory of God because He is the Anointed One. If you clearly observe the life of Jesus Christ, He never thought about himself when He was healing the sick, delivering the oppressed and preaching the Good News to multitudes of people. He was only attempting to do the will of the Father and to please Him alone (see John 5:17-30).

The purpose of anointing is for God’s Kingdom to advance, not for personal gain. Unfortunately, jealousy and rivalry are rampant in most Christian circles these days, due to their ignorance of the schemes of the enemy. The apostle Paul said in (2 Corinthians 2:11 in order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.) that Satan won’t take advantage of us if we are aware of his schemes. It takes quality time and fellowship with the Holy Spirit and His Word to expose the works of the kingdom of darkness, for God’s Word is a lamp for our feet and a light to our path.
