How To Forgive Yourself

When you cannot forgive yourself because of past mistakes, bad decisions, bad choices and all other shameful things you have done, your life can gradually be stolen away day by day without you knowing it. We have all had our bad choices and mistakes in the past no matter how grave or how small they are but to keep holding on to those memories will just make you suffer, and I tell you, others will suffer too because the way we perceive ourselves sometimes affect the way we treat people and the way we perceive others.

Hence, how are you going to forgive yourself when you cannot forget what you have done?

By yourself, you will not be able to do it. You are going to need the help of Holy Spirit to transform your mindset through the Word of God. He will certainly not fail you because our God is powerful and nothing is too hard for Him even though we may think that things are tough or hard to do.

What does God say about the forgiveness of our sins?  Here are some of the verses for you to meditate upon so that every time thoughts about regrets and mistakes attack you, God will remind you of His Word:

  • 1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Meditating upon these verses will help you realize the forgiveness of God in your life. He has forgiven you already once you have confessed your sins and He remembers them no more. The devil is the one who is bringing the past back to you to condemn you and tell you lies that you are useless, worthless, and such.

You first need to receive the forgiveness of God so that you could do the same to yourself. If God has forgiven you already, then what urges you not to forgive yourself?

You still have a future to face. To look back at the past is to be stuck in it and waste away the gift called present. It is not too late for you. If you have lost someone because of the things you have done, look at the people who are with you today; who are there for you, caring for you and loving you. I am sure you do not want to lose them too.

Let go of the past and start forgiving yourself because God has already forgiven you. This is your time to make things right together with the help of the Holy Spirit.
