Have You Lost Your Faith Because of the Church?

Have you stopped attending church because the people in there were bad, corrupt, or worse than people who never go to church? Have you stopped believing in God because of these church goers? I want to encourage you that you are not alone in such experience. In fact, many of the people who were hurt by the church didn’t know that it was religion that hurt them. God had nothing to do with it.

Thank you for opening my eyes that the offenses made by Your people is not Your doing. Forgive me if it had caused me to lose my faith in you because I had my faith in people instead. Renew my heart and my Lord and cleanse me from any sins in my life. Help me to once again recover and help me to renew my mind about offenses. I want to rededicate my faith in You and may the Holy Spirit empower me to do Your will. This I ask in Jesus’ name. Amen!

I have learned that most people who left their church or who reject the Word of God was because offense. Jesus said in Luke 17:1-3, “It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come! It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones. Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.”

Offenses are part of this world. And even the very servants of the Lord can cause a stumbling block to his or her brothers and sisters in the family of God. Jesus said that it is “impossible” that offenses won’t come. It’s a sad reality that many people are being offended by God’s very own people and even caused them to lose their faith in Him, which is why God’s judgement will begin with the household of God (see 1 Peter 4:17).

However, there is one thing that you need to keep in mind – never let your view of God be changed because of people.  Whatever church people did or are doing, God is God and He can’t be equated with such people. Remember, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” (Romans 3:23). You cannot expect God’s people to be instantly holy and loving in an instant. Everyone is a work in progress, working out on the salvation they have received and God’s grace and patience enables them to change.

I understand that offenses should never come from the people of God but He also told us of “Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.” (Colossians 3:13).

Everyone is in need of a Savior who is compassionate and merciful because everybody falls short from time to time. This is perhaps the best time for you to reassess the offense done in your life by someone in your church and take it to God. Do not allow the offense of man change your faith in GOD for He is faithful in all things. People may fail us but never GOD.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for opening my eyes that the offenses made by Your people is not Your doing. Amen!
