Comparison Is Not From God

If you are to ask yourself honestly, have you tried comparing yourself with other women? Whether it is physically, intellectually, or materially, comparing yourself with other women does not help you at all. Instead of boosting your self-confidence, you just feel low all the more.

In my life, I too had experienced comparing myself with other women because I lack the knowledge of God’s Word and I did not know my identity in Christ yet at that time. I will never forget the feeling of getting depressed, insecure, self-hate and bitter as I compare myself with someone I think is better than me in some aspects. I thank the Lord that He has delivered me from that thinking. God whispered to me “comparison is the devil’s language.” When I asked Him about it, He reminded me the fall of mankind from Genesis when the serpent tempted Eve, a woman:

“You won’t die!” the serpent replied to the woman. ‘God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.’ The woman was convinced…” (Genesis 3:5-6  5 “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.”  The woman was convinced. She saw that the tree was beautiful and its fruit looked delicious, and she wanted the wisdom it would give her. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. Then she gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it, too. NLT)

Comparison is not from God

In these verses, you can see that the serpent first tempted the woman by means of comparison. He told the woman that if she eats from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, she will be like God as if telling her that she was not like God. The woman believed such lie because she lacked knowledge that God created man in His own image and likeness. Hence, she was convinced. The devil used the language of comparison (which is a lie) so that Eve would not realize who she really is.

We can all be like Eve when we believe in the devil’s lie. When you compare yourself with others and believe in that lie, the tendency is that your eyes will now focus on something that you do not have; something that God did not create for you. You become jealous, insecure and bitter because you are now focusing on the wrong things. This is what the devil wants from women. What worked on Eve can work on all women but I praise God that He had delivered me from this so that I, too, can share this message to you.

Stop comparing yourself with other people. It may be true that she or they may have something that you do not but do not focus on things you do not have. Instead, look at the blessings of God in your life. Look at the good things about yourself because God created you uniquely for a unique purpose and calling. At some aspects, there is only one thing that only YOU can do and can be because God does not create human clones. Our God is the original Maker! Therefore, you are the only original there could ever be!

The moment you free yourself from comparison, you will really see that all God has for you will suddenly flow and a breakthrough in your life will come forth.
