What Is The Focus Of Your Eyes?

According to science, the human eye functions like a camera. It gathers, focuses and transmits light to a lens to create an image. In order to see, light is needed.

Try to close your eyes and see if you can see anything. When you close your eyes, you cannot see a thing because there is no light involved. However, even when your eyes are closed, there are pictures or images that are running in your mind. Those are what your eyes have gathered and focused on.

Now, let us study what the Bible says about our eyes.

Matthew 6:22-23 says that “Your eye is a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is good, your whole body is filled with light. But when your eye is bad, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is darkness, how deep that darkness is.”

Studying verse 22 and 23, there are three things involved: your eyes, your body and light.

In your life right now, what can you say about your eyes? What is your focus right now and what are the images or thoughts inside your mind? Is it light or dark?

The young generation nowadays is surrounded with all kinds of information and knowledge that may either help or harm them. The sources include Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, television shows, movies, advertisements, and all other media related materials.

What you see and hear every day is what makes who you are today. This is what Jesus meant when he said that your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body.

For example, most commercials and advertisements frame beautiful women as tall, sexy, with perfect hair, perfect body, perfect skin and all those things. As a result, many young girls perceive themselves to be ugly which is not true at all.

What your eyes are seeing can affect your perception about yourself, this life, marriage, dating, and all because of the light that one is focusing.

The Bible said that the true light that we should all be fixing our eyes onto is the Lord Jesus Christ:

“The Lord is my light and my salvation – so why should I be afraid? (Psalm 27:1 NLT).”

“For You are the fountain of life, the light by which we see (Psalm 36:9 NLT).”

“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path (Psalm 119:105 NLT).”

Jesus Christ is the true source of light; not the media or anything else this world is offering. It is Jesus Christ and the Word of God whom we should be focusing our eyes on!

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You so much for Your Son Jesus Christ who is my source of life, light and hope. Forgive me if I have been looking, focusing and believing on the wrong things. May Your Holy Spirit empower me to fix my eyes unto Jesus Christ and to align all my perceptions and thinking according to Your Words. Thank You, Daddy God for the grace and mercy. Amen.
