The Peace of God

If there is one thing that you could ask for in this life, that should be the peace of God. No matter how rich or poor people are, whether they have something to eat today or not, and whether someone is sick and dying or healthy and alive, all these do not matter if there is no peace in the heart. Why is this so and what does the bible say about the peace of God?

“The Lord will give strength unto his people; the Lord will bless his people with peace (Psa. 29:11 KJV).”

Here are some of the few things you need to know about the peace of God:

  1. To receive the gift of peace is unlike any other gift that this world could offer us.

Jesus said in John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

More than living in a comfortable house, warm clothing during winters or delicious foods available to your table, if there is no peace in your heart you are the most troubled person in the world. And to receive the peace of God which Jesus can give to us is to be full of hope and assurance that somehow tomorrow is always going to be okay no matter what is happening in the present. This is the uniqueness of God’s gift of peace. A rich man can be troubled on the inside by many things while a poor man whose got nothing to eat can be at peace because he believes that God will provide. And this kind of peace a troubled rich man could probably not understand because the peace of God exceeds all understanding.

  1. Peace is not just a gift but also a blessing.

“The Lord will give strength unto his people; the Lord will bless his people with peace (Psa. 29:11 KJV).”

God blesses all his people with peace and He loves to see His family at peace with each other like any mother and father would want for their family and children. Peace is a blessing in every home, community, society, nation, in relationships, and in every circumstance. Without peace, there is no order, no unity, no security, and no love. That is why peace is a blessing that could only come from God.

  1. Peace is God Himself.

“…And his name shall be called “Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace (Isa. 9:6 KJV).”

Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace. When you have peace, you know that God’s presence surrounds you. When you make decisions and there is peace in your heart, you know that God has blessed you with peace.

  1. The peace of God in you is Satan’s very weakness.

When you have the peace of God, Satan couldn’t do anything with you. Just take the life of Jesus Christ on earth as an example. Because he is called The Prince of Peace, Satan could not defeat Christ despite the many devices he used: criticisms and jealousies, gossips and accusations, rejections, even suffering and death! But Jesus Christ was full of God’s peace that even death could not hold him down! If you have God’s peace in you, Satan fears it the most because he knows it is bruising time!

“And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly (Rom 16:20 KJV).”
