Thinking about Revenge? Stop and Wait for the LORD to Move Instead
“Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil. For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the Lord, they shall inherit the earth.” – Psalm 37:7-9
When people do bad things to you, sometimes, you could really lose it and you want them to pay for what they have done. This is how endless battles begin: paying back evil for evil. But as believers, we know that we should never pay back evil with evil for we should always conquer evil with good (see Romans 12:17-21).
But is God blind to the injustices we are experiencing? Does it mean that we simply allow injustices to happen in our lives? As you can see from the Scriptures above, the LORD will move on your behalf. And this is the only way that you can fight and win the battles right, but handling it over to the One who is just and righteous.
I know that it can be very difficult to see people who are intentionally plotting evil prosper in their ways without getting the punishment you think they deserve but God’s Word said cease from being angry and forsake your rage for it will only do you more harm than good. Moreover, trusting in the LORD will get you “there” to where God is taking you.
Therefore, stop struggling and fighting for your case especially when the situation involves motives of the people, and matters of the heart that only GOD can see. If someone is gossiping about you, telling lies or destroying your reputation, God’s Word says, be still in the presence of the LORD and wait patiently for him to act. God will fight for you and He will surely bring justice to your case.
When you fight these kinds of battles in your own ways, the tendency really is that you will lose because we are living in a world that is corrupt, wicked and evil and only the supremacy and supernatural ways of God could deal with such things in this world. The only thing you could do is to submit to God and resist the devil through holding on to God’s Word and pray things through.
Let God fight for you and you simply need to be still. When the enemy comes attacking through people, yield strongly to the Holy Spirit and ask Him to produce in you the fruit of self-control, love, peace, joy, and gentleness. God will not abandon you in a life of injustices. He will surely fight for you as you let go of things and say, “Lord, fight for me instead. I will resist the devil and submit unto you.”
God is faithful and He knows the cries of your heart. Trust in Him and all things will work out for your good.
Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. – Romans 12:19
