These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence. And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth. Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch. And this is the fashion which thou shalt make it of: The length of the ark shall be three hundred cubits, the breadth of it fifty cubits, and the height of it thirty cubits. A window shalt thou make to the ark, and in a cubit shalt thou finish it above; and the door of the ark shalt thou set in the side thereof; with lower, second, and third stories shalt thou make it. And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die. But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee. And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female. Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive. And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them. Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he. Genesis 6:9-22

Noah was one of the famous characters in the Bible who obeyed God. Some preachers say he was mocked for obeying God when asked to build an ark, while some scholars say that this wasn’t really stated in the Bible. But we can read in (Matthew 24:37-39 As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.) about Jesus referring to Noah:

“But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.”

Whether the people laughed at Noah for obeying God or they didn’t care about Noah at all, you can see that because Noah obeyed God, he and his family were saved from the terrible event that took place. In the latter part of the story, there were people who really died in that flood (Genesis 7:21 Every living thing that moved on land perished—birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind.); this means they didn’t know what was happening because they were too busy with their lives, just as Jesus mentioned in Matthew 24:37-39.

Reading Genesis 6:9-22, you can see that the people in the days of Noah were becoming evil and corrupt, and this led God to wipe out life on earth. But because Noah was righteous in the sight of the LORD, God spoke to Noah and gave him instructions in order to save him from the coming flood.

Noah’s life reminds us of how important our obedience to God is whether we get mocked by the people around us or no one cares about or appreciates us at all. Noah did exactly as God had commanded him to do, and he didn’t doubt at all.

You don’t have to be like Noah, who had to build a huge ark to show his faith and obedience to God in order for his family and loved ones to be saved. Being obedient in the smallest of things in everyday life can make an impact on your future and help you be a godly influence on those who matter to you. For instance, a simple act of a child’s obedience to parents by not staying out late at night might save the child’s life. Another instance might be when your doctor warns you about your health and strictly asks you to adjust your diet; if you’re obedient to what the doctor says, that might change the course of your health and give you hope. This simple wisdom and guidance comes from God.

More importantly, you know that as Christians our source of spiritual strength and faith is spending time with the Word of God. If you are starting to feel dry and spiritually cold because of your busy schedule, and you’re missing out on many Sunday services and fellowships, perhaps you should start spending less time with the world and more with God’s Word. By doing so, you are obeying what you are called to do as a child of God.

Sometimes, God will use people to warn you and guide you onto the right path. He uses godly people to protect you from the plans of the enemy ( John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.). Your obedience even in these small steps does matter, whether people support you or not. When the Holy Spirit convicts you to obey, you, like Noah, must follow, for you never know whose life might get saved, delivered, and rescued—yours or that of those who matter to you.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
