The Importance of Waiting in the LORD

Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.” –Psalms 27:14

God’s blessings and breakthrough for His people do not happen in one snap of a finger. They usually require patience and obedience in our part. Before Joseph became the ruler of Egypt, he had to go through so much in life which required him patience and forgiveness along the way; before David became King, he had to endure the jealousy of the former king Saul and had to hide in the cave for years; even the Son of God, Jesus Christ had to wait for 30 years before He could fulfill his destiny as our Lord and Savior. And in his waiting period, he walked in full obedience to the Father which required him patience as well.

“Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.” –Psalms 27:14

When God wants to bless us and take us to breakthrough financially, spiritually, emotionally, even physically, He would need our cooperation – to wait and be patient. Why is waiting necessary and important?

It is important because first of all patience is a fruit of the Holy Spirit. If God is making you wait, it is because He wanted to produce the fruit of the Holy Spirit in you, particularly patience. You cannot go on and pursue your God given goals, dreams and callings without the Holy Spirit. Secondly, if you are waiting for such a long time now and life is becoming a boring cycle for you, re-evaluate your prayer life and communication with God. He will reveal everything you need to know as you come to Him in your prayer time. Also, waiting reveals the motives and intentions of your heart. If you really want to pursue something or someone, you are willing to wait. Lastly, if God is making you wait, then you are on the right track for even the Son of God had to wait.

Do not be impatient to receive your breakthrough and blessings that you have been asking God for. In my life, I realized that if God had not made me wait and if He had given me the things I desired in an instant my gratefulness and appreciation would not have been this deep. Many times, God had to make me wait and endure so many hardships and many times I realized that some of these waiting periods were not even part of His plans but it was due to my disobedience and lack of yielding to the Holy Spirit. So, it resulted to prolonged waiting period. The Lord will reveal this to you as well in your prayer time.

Generally, waiting is really part of life; Before mothers can give birth, they have to wait and endure for 9 months before the baby would come out; and before a student could finally graduate he or she had to wait and endure many things for more than 10 years. Waiting is part of life and God has designed it that way so that we may appreciate, be full of joy, and gain wisdom and understanding when the right time and moment comes.
