There are many Bible verses about patience. The characteristic is sometimes called long-suffering when it refers to God’s patience with us. The personality trait is one of the “Fruits of the Spirit” and is given as a gift from God to believers. Patience used in this sense is not passive or gentle. It is a word that shows activity and robustness in the actions and approach to life. Running a race with “patience” might be better translated as moving through the course of the race with “endurance”. Patience doesn’t happen in a blink of an eye. It is necessary to tap into a recognition of God’s power and endurance to achieve true development of patience.
