What Could Jesus Mean by Sleeping In the Middle Of The Storm
Reading Matthew 8:23–27, we see a puzzling scene: Jesus is asleep in the middle of a violent storm, while His disciples are panicking, fearing for their lives. They wake Him up, crying, “Lord, save us: we perish!” Jesus responds, “Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?” Then He calms the wind and sea, leaving the disciples in awe.
What does this moment teach us?
Our Christian life is like that boat—sometimes the waters are calm, other times, turbulent. But no matter what, God has promised never to leave us nor forsake us. Jesus being asleep in the boat represents those seasons when we feel God is silent. We’re overwhelmed by the chaos around us and forget that He is right there with us.
When Jesus awoke, He asked, “Why are ye fearful?” It’s as if He was saying, “I’m here with you. Don’t you trust me?” Jesus is teaching us to have faith in His presence, even when we can’t feel it. His presence is our assurance.

God would never let the boat sink with His Son in it. If the Messiah was with them, there was no real danger. And now, Christ is in us—how much more confident should we be in every season of life?

God will not let you drown. Even in storms, Jesus is in your life-boat. As long as your faith remains in Him, He will sustain you and bring peace in the midst of chaos.
